Welcome! Thank you for visiting and reading about my journey.
I felt it was important to share a piece of my journey with you ~ Remember, there are never any ‘mistakes’ in life ~ just lessons.
I love this quote
“The Journey is the Destination”
I have always been quite health conscious. Going to the gym regularly, lifting weights, eating wholefood plant-based etc
After my 2nd child, I began to suffer from really bad nasal congestion. Many attempts of antibiotics and the nasal congestion never went away and continued to get worse.
Doctors recommended have nasal polyps surgery, and so i did as i was told. After two surgery’s they removed all the polyps.
It was great to be able to breathe through my nose again. After those surgeries, I began to get chronic ear infections.
Again, more antibiotics that didn’t work and another surgery was recommend. So, I did as i was told. I had grommets placed in my ears and it was okay for a while, but i continued to get ear infections.
This went on for many years and it led me down the path of alternative medicine and therapies as I knew that conventional medicine did not help me get to the root cause.
One night, on a full moon I had an ear ache come on very suddenly in the middle of the night. I called an at home doctor but could not find one available. I packed my little kids up in the car (as my husband is FIFO and was away at the time) and drove to the closest hospital (which was a private one). I was told it would cost a $600 excess fee, so I left and put up with the pain for the night.
Throughout the night I got worse and developed a fever. The next morning I packed my two little kids up in the car again and drove to a doctors clinic. I was crying and felt like I was going to vomit. I asked them if I could lay down, so they showed me to a bed and I awaited for the doctor to come in.
Finally, the doctor came in, looked in my ear and prescribed me more antibiotics. I drove home (which I should not have been driving) and laid on my sofa for a week taking antibiotics that did not work. Somehow, my husband came home early on the Friday (which he normally does not get home until a Monday) and took me back to the doctor where I was then told to go to emergency immediately.
After some tests, they discovered that I had bacterial meningitis. I was transferred to the Royal Brisbane Hospital the next morning via ambulance and spent a month there, where I was poked and prodded with lots of needles, tests etc. and had a PICC line inserted to have intravenous antibiotics.
Eventually, I was released and was able to go home. I had a nurse come to my home each day to change over the antibiotics. Something didn’t feel right since the day I had the PICC line inserted. I had a burning, metallic taste in my mouth. I then developed a temp and a slow rash started to appear. I went back to doctors, had more tests but they were all coming back ‘normal’ and I was told there was nothing to worry about.
The next morning, when the nurse came to my home, I couldn’t get out of bed and the rash had spread and gotten worse. She told me to go to emergency. I was readmitted for another month as they finally discovered I had a severe allergic reaction to the antibiotic called, Stephen Johnson Syndrome (SJS). It burned my body from the inside out. Christmas day 2019, I looked like a blowfish. My whole body was puffy, swollen and i looked scary!
Eventually the swelling and inflammation went away and i began my healing journey with lots of fresh fruit, veg. When i regained my strength again, I got back to the gym and started to build myself back up again.
So, how could someone so healthy get so sick?
Great Question!
Anyone can get sick at any time. If we are healthy or healthier we have a better chance of survival. Doctors told me that if I wasn’t as healthy as I was, I would not be here.
I was healthy - yes, but I was also very stressed. With no family support network, husband away, and trying to be a supermum - the universe made me slow down. The universe only gives us lessons. It’s up to us to listen (no pun intended). This did not happen to me - It happened for me.
I guess, like anything in life, we can either chose to be the victim or we can use our experiences to make us stronger, wiser and healthier. Remember, we get to chose!
I had a dream for 6 years.
To open a plant-based cafe and healing hub., called Alchemy Tribe.
I found this cute little shipping container to trial out my plant-based food to see how it would be taken by the community. I thought - this is exactly what the world is needing! More wholefoods. People will love it!
Yet, three months in, I shut the doors. My dream disintegrated rapidly. I had thought I was fulfilling my life's purpose, but it was no longer in alignment with me.
The weather played a significant role, with 21 days of rain in a 27-day span. Seriously! The timing of the opening in February (most people are broke after Christmas), the location (was like a retirement village), steep overheads, and the surging cost of living posed nearly insurmountable challenges….you get the picture?
I had no time for myself, I was feeling stressed and on the verge of burnout.
However, on a positive note, I had a lot of fun creating the brand Alchemy Tribe. The people I met and who came to support us, the learning experience, and the way Alchemy Tribe has evolved... is even BETTER!
While there are pro’s and con’s to everything, I believe I may have encountered a small mental breakdown amongst this chaos. At 48 years old, my life felt like it was collapsing all around me.
Returning to life's simple practices, such as yin yoga, breathwork, and chiropractic sessions, has been essential for regulating my nervous system. Opening a business is a significant milestone, and when you invest your heart and soul into it, it becomes a monumental event, doesn't it?
Since the cafe closed, I've found more time to dedicate to my family. I can attend every one of my daughter's Saturday soccer matches, be more present for my children and husband, and continue pursuing my passion without the extra stress.
I have transformed the Alchemy Tribe Cafe into the Alchemy Tribe Movement, creating a space where our community's voices can be shared with stories like my own. This platform aims to inspire those facing difficult times.
The Alchemy Wellness Project is dedicated to supporting individuals in their health and well-being journey. It provides mentoring and coaching services aimed at enhancing the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being of each person.
